Jon Pardi has debuted the new music video for his latest single, "Ain't Always The Cowboy."
The song, written by Brandon Kinney alongside Josh Thompson, rejects the idea that the cowboy is always the one leaving. Instead, Pardi sings of a woman who leaves the man with a broken heart as she rides away without him.
"That restless runnin' / Searchin' for somethin' / Leavin' love in the dust of a midnight Chevrolet / It ain't always the cowboy that rides away," Pardi sings in the chorus.
"I feel like the topic of the song hasn’t been written about in this way, and I love songs that approach things differently and offer fresh perspectives," Pardi shared previously.
The new video, directed by Carlos Ruiz, follows a couple out in the scenic desert West. The storyline of the song is brought to life as the woman in the video is the one who spends her time riding her horse, while the man watches, longing for more of her time and attention. In the end, the woman packs up her trailer and heads down the road, leaving the man behind.
"Ain't Always The Cowboy" follows up Pardi's previous chart-topping single, "Heartache Medication." Both songs are from his 2019 Heartache Medication album.
