Thomas Rhett Performs Original Holiday Track During 'CMA Country Christmas'

Thomas Rhett helped fans get in the holiday spirit with a performance of his original Christmas song, "Christmas In The Country," during the 2020 CMA Country Christmas special on Monday (November 30).

"I’m performing a song that I released last Christmas called ‘Christmas In The Country,’ and I wrote it because we spend all of our Christmases out at our farm and it truly is very magical," Rhett shared ahead of his performance. "We get to see the barn lit up, we put a big Christmas tree in the barn and everything that song says is very autobiographical to what our Christmas looks like, we just love Christmas time and love getting to spend it in the country."

The country star performed the feel-good tune as his co-host and wife Lauren Akins sat beside the fireplace watching her husband perform.

In addition to Rhett, Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A, Gabby Barrett, Tim McGraw , and Darius Rucker with violinist and singer-songwriter, Lindsey Stirling also performed during the television special this year.

Paul Miller directed this year's special, while Robert Deaton served as the executive producer and writer.

"The idea for this year's show was to do a throwback of the great Christmas specials of the 1960s and 1970s," Deaton said in a previous statement. "Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra all had classic Christmas specials where the viewer was invited into the homes of the host to celebrate the holiday like a best friend coming to visit. That was what we wanted to create for this year's show. Instead of a big flashy production, we took a page from those iconic specials to say, 'Come relax, and let's celebrate the holidays together.'"
