Costco removing product from shelves over reported monkey labor

You won't find Chaokoh coconut milk products on the shelves at COSTCO and it's not due to a pandemic shortage. It's due to Monkey Labor. Yep, you read that correctly. Monkey Labor.

According to USA Today, Costco is not alone. Walgreens, Food Lion, Giant Food and Stop & Shop, also stopped stocking brands of coconut milk after PETA alleged that monkeys in Thailand were picking coconuts.

However, Theppadungporn Coconut Co. Ltd, the maker of Chaokoh coconut milk, told USA Today it audited coconut plantations and found that none the 64 randomly selected plantations — out of 817 — were using monkeys to harvest coconuts.

According to the article, the company said: "Following the recent news about the use of “monkey (labor)” in Thailand’s coconut industry, Chaokoh, one of the world’s leaders in coconut milk production, reassures that we do not engage the use of monkey (labor) in our coconut plantations,"
